Factory Workers’ Pchum Ben Leave Announced

Phnom Penh: During the Pchum Ben Festival factory workers must have paid leave between 5-7 October. The Ministry of Labor has notified factory owners and directors of enterprises that following the Labor Law, they can also discuss with worker’s representatives to change the leave for another suitable time if required.

In case a laborer works during the scheduled leave, they are qualified to receive a bonus equal to the wage of their normal weekdays. However, factories or businesses with a “global character” shouldn’t stop and carry on with work as usual.

The Ministry of Labor has requested that in this case, enterprises should arrange workers to take turns and be given a day off on each holiday, in an effort to not disrupt the whole working schedule of the company. The business should make their roster available for inspection by the Labor Inspector.

The government has also warned that workers on leave should follow all health measures to avoid spread of Covid-19 during the festivities.
